The first Alliance Française was founded in Paris in 1883, starting a worldwide, non-profit network of associations dedicated to the promotion of French language and culture abroad.
In Hamilton, the Alliance has been running (in various forms) more than 60 years. These days, we collaborate with other Alliances around the country, from Auckland to Dunedin.
Internationally, there are now 1081 Alliances Françaises in 135 countries including seven in New Zealand. Altogether Alliances teach 400,000 students of French at all levels around the world.
